The invention relates to a spring buffer for an elevator. The spring buffer comprises a buffering cylinder. The buffering cylinder is vertically arranged. Both the two ends of the buffering cylinder are sealed, the bottom of an inner cavity of the buffering cylinder is provided with a vertical big spring and a vertical small spring, both the lower end of the big spring and the lower end of the small spring are fixed to the buffering cylinder, and the height of the big spring is larger than that of the small spring. The top of the small spring is provided with a vertical sliding shaft. The diameter of the sliding shaft is smaller than the inner diameter of the big spring and larger than the outer diameter of the small spring. The axis of the sliding shaft coincides with the axis of the buffering cylinder. The middle of the upper end of the buffering cylinder is provided with a through hole. The upper end of the sliding shaft penetrates through the through hole and stretches out of the buffering cylinder. The sliding shaft is in sliding fit with the through hole, and the top of the sliding shaft is fixedly provided with a horizontal buffering plate. The segment, between the upper end of the big spring and the top of the buffering cylinder, of the sliding shaft is provided with an annular boss, and the diameter of the annular boss is larger than the inner diameter of the big spring. The spring buffer is not prone to damage when the impact force of the elevator is overly large, and safety accidents can be avoided.
