The invention provides a traction type elevator which comprises an elevator car, a counterweight filler, a traction belt and a traction wheel. The two ends of the traction belt are respectively connected with the elevator car and the counterweight filler, and the center portion of the traction belt is sleeved on the traction wheel. The traction type elevator is characterized in that the traction belt comprises a plurality of branch ropes which are interval parallel arrangement. The branch ropes comprise a first branch rope and a second branch rope. The first branch rope and the second branch rope are arranged in one row intervals in same distance. The first branch rope is twisted by a plurality of steel wires, and the second branch rope is twisted by a plurality of carbon fibers. An outer casing layer is injection molded on the external of the branch ropes, and thus the plurality of branch ropes are integrated. A groove is arranged on the surface of the outer casing layer. The groove is formed on the interface of the adjacent two branch ropes, and the bottom surface of the groove is an arc surface. The traction wheel comprises a bulge which is matched with the groove.
