A hand guard assembly used on recreational vehicles (such as but not limited to motorcycles, snowmobiles, and/or ATVs) typically consists of shielding elements mounted to handlebar steering assembly such that riders' hands are offered protection from debris and/or impacts. The presented invention uniquely introduces modular multi-piece shielding elements (fastened with any type of mounting system) consisting of a primary shield shaped to occupy a meaningful amount of area substantially ahead of the riders' hands and fingers with respect to the direction of travel of the vehicle, plus one or more additional shield segment(s) of a smaller size than the primary shield, configured in a position ahead of the primary shield with respect to the direction of travel of the vehicle. Benefits include but are not limited to protection and therefore longer useful lifespan of the primary shield, lower maintenance item replacement costs, and enhanced customization.
