Provided herein is a method for automated docking of a passenger boarding bridge (PBB") to an aircraft that requires minimal or no manual operation, and an arrangement therefor. The method comprises determining a target position in relation to an aircraft door and controlling movement of the PBB based on the target position, wherein the target position is determined using a modelling phase in which digital model of the door is determined, and a final phase in which either an auxiliary position in relation to the door is monitored by a main scanning device, wherein a spatial relationship between the target position and the auxiliary position is provided by the digital model to determine the target position, or an auxiliary scanning device is used to the determine the target position.
