A truck-mountable hopper for transportation of mineral or aggregates is configured to prevent loss of material from the hopper during normal travel and during ascent of steep grades, and provides increased hopper payload while facilitating faster and more efficient material discharge. Curved transitions along junctures between the hopper floor and the hopper front and side walls prevent or mitigate accumulation of material in wall-to-floor connection areas and promoting efficient material discharge, features that are enhanced with increased radius of curvature of the transition sections. Plate folds may be provided in selected regions of the hopper to provide structural reinforcement enabling elimination of beams used in conventional hoppers, thus decreasing hopper dead weight and increasing payload capacity, reducing welding requirements, and minimizing potential for crack formation. The hopper preferably has a wide release area to promote efficient sliding flow of material being discharged from the hopper.
