Pedestrian 12 wearable cap lamp 10 for personal safety (e.g. for an underground mine worker) has communication means 32 providing dedicated short-range communication (DSRC), e.g., IEEE 802.11p, for vehicle-to-person (V2P) communication for a personal safety proximity/collision warning/avoidance system (PWS/CAS). User input device 10.5 enables wearer to confirm/send alerts. Cap lamp can include an internal antenna 12.2 operatively connected to a DSRC module 14 within the housing 10.1. The cap lamp 32 and an onboard device 28 of a vehicle form at least part of the V2P PWS/CAS, e.g. an underground mine, for dedicated and direct point-to-point (P2P) communication between the cap lamp 10 worn by the pedestrian 11 and the vehicle 30 operator. Inertial measurement device/unit 34 in the cap lamp can sense pedestrian's movement. A wireless network module, e.g. Wi-Fi, in the cap lamp can send data to above-ground for real-time monitoring, data back-up and emergency management. FIG 1A FIG 1B FIG 2A FIG 2B
