Abstract A locking system for a swivel caster of a towable apparatus comprises a mechanically actuated locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is disposed relative to a wheel of the swivel caster, wherein the wheel rotates about a rotational axis to engage with a ground surface. The locking mechanism is configured to lock the rotational axis in a fixed orientation relative to the towable apparatus. The locking system also comprises a location receiver for acquiring geographical position data relating to the towable apparatus and a system controller operatively connected to the location receiver and locking mechanism. The system controller causes the locking mechanism to lock the rotational axis of the wheel when the system controller determines, using the geographical position data, that the towable apparatus is moving along one of a set of predetermined travel paths.
