The invention relates to a method for greasing a contact wire (14) for supplying electrical energy to a pantograph of a rail vehicle, said method comprising: - inserting the contact wire (14) into a passage opening (25) of a main body (21) which extends in a longitudinal direction (1), a transverse direction (11) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction (1), and a vertical direction (9) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction (1) and perpendicular to the transverse direction (11), wherein the passage opening (25) penetrates the main body (21), as viewed in the longitudinal direction (1), from a front side to a rear side as viewed in the longitudinal direction (1), and - accelerating the main body (21) in the longitudinal direction (1) so that the contact wire (14) is moved through the passage direction, characterised by - introducing grease (54) into the passage opening (25) through which the contact wire (14) moves at a feed rate (59) at which the introduced grease (54) emerges from the passage opening (25) at the rear of the main body (21) with a predefined condition (63).
