The invention overcomes the problem of long road trains involving dog trailers overloading bridge spans by separating the train while on the move into two sub trains by disconnecting the drawbar of one dolly from the hitch located at the rear of the preceding (i.e. leading) trailer and inserting an auxiliary virtual drawbar whose length can be controlled to increase the separation of the two sub trains. Means of deducing and recording the path of the preceding trailer with instrumented castors is also described. A method of making the separated dolly (which must be self-propelled) follow the path of the preceding trailer is also described. C) c) N iN I,
