An apparatus (50) for handling bulk material comprising a spreader (100) having a first engagement formation (120, 122, 124, 126) and a bulk material storage cradle (200) having first and second side members (202, 204) defining two opposing longitudinal walls spaced to define a receptacle. The cradle (200) has a second engagement formation (250), and a gate member (210, 212) having a proximal end (214) hingedly connected to the first side member (202) and a distal end (216) having a third engagement formation (280) configured to engage a fourth engagement formation (282) of the second side member (204). The first engagement formation (120, 122, 124,126) is engageable with the second engagement formation (250) to secure the spreader (100) to the cradle (200). The third engagement formation (280) is disengageable from the fourth engagement formation (282) to release the gate member (210, 212) from the second side member (204).
