The boat/ vessel has two sides one port one starboard. Approximately halfway down the side of the boat is a join in the side and another at the aft end of the boat/ vessel a hinge is fitted along the bottom edge and seals are fitted fwd & aft. It allows a section of the boat side to hinge down down flat and level to the floor becoming an extension of the floor outwards (by a distance the height of the sides) with thickness enough to act as a float either sideThe lowered sides may end up at or just above the waterline at restBy lowering the sides it provides increased deck space improved vessel stability and better access in and out of the vessel whether it be in the water or out of the water (eg on a trailer)It has not been done on small vessels before as it requires structural and watertight integrity design considerationsThe design/ configuration can be built from any material and fitted to any boat/ vessel design subject to engineering/ naval architecture assessment
