A control device for fitting to one or more wheel assemblies of a supermarket trolley to assist in 5 controlling movement of the trolley in a straight line includes a projecting detent and an engaging element having an engager in which the detent is received in or against the engager when the control device is in the locked position to prevent swivelling of the engaging 10 element which is fixedly connected to the wheel of the trolley to maintain the wheel of the trolley in the straight ahead position. When it is desired to turn the trolley, the control device is operated to release the detent from the engager thus allowing the engaging element 15 and wheel to swivel to change the direction of travel of the trolley. Then, when in the new position, the wheel can be relocked into the new straight ahead position.
