Abstract 22.8.15 Global energy challenges have driven development of a range of solar energy technologies. This invention is a solution to using lightweight, flexible printed organic cells or amorphous silicon cells in a way that they can be floating directly on a water body and retracted onto roller drums for cleaning, maintenance and protection in storm conditions. This invention has the potential for large scale roll out of flexible solar cells on large water bodies for significantly lower cost(capital, installation and maintenance) compared with polycrystalline solar panels on floating structures.
