A device is disclose which may find use in dampening or reducing the severity of rocking of an object that is floating, immersed or submerged in a liquid. For example, embodiments of the device may find use in damping or reducing the severity of rocking of a small boats and other watercraft which are floating "at anchor". The device has a support member which is operable to be connected relative to the object (e.g. boat or other object). The device also has at least one wing member which is connected relative to the support member and which can move relative to the support member so as to increase and decrease an angle between the wing member and the support member. Each wing member has a least one aperture through which liquid can flow, and each wing member also has at least one cover member connected relative to the wing member and which can move relative to the wing member so as to either cover at least one aperture to substantially prevent liquid from following through said at least one aperture, or uncover said at least one aperture so as not to prevent liquid from following through said at least one aperture. 21 Crz I2 I> I'5 K 0 / r - ~ ~ N ~ ///22 N . ~ - 1 1 tt 10 ' 12 Fiur 4
