The Institute of Management Services held a seminar in London recently which dealt with the awesome topic of “Energy Saving in Transport and Distribution”. Whilst no machine can yet control the human factor — how the truck driver handles his vehicle can greatly affect fuel consumption — the following paper describes the possibilities for fuel measurement in road transport, so that both driver and management can be aware of how much petrol is being used up underneath the bonnet.
