THE Auster is a development of the original Cub, for the manufacture of which in this country the British Taylorcraft Co. was formed nearly ten years ago. The Cub was an ultra-light 40 h.p. tandem two-seater intended as a very cheap aeroplane for the private owner or the small flying club. The type was developed and, shortly before the war, a side-by-side twoseater with a Cirrus Minor engine was produced. This version was adopted by the R.A.F. and F.A.A. for communications duties, and was given the Service name of Auster.
