ON May 11, 1931, the Japanese Emperor formally opened the Aeronautical Research Institute of Tokyo Imperial University. Since abstracts of all the reports of the Institute issued since January, 1930, have been published in the “Research Reports and Memoranda” pages of AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING, the following description of the laboratory and some of the work done there should be interesting to readers.
