UL40 is an aluminium-lithium alloy containing 4% Li, produced by Cospray Advanced Aluminium materials. The alloy is cast using the spray deposition process, which allows this exotic alloy to be produced with a refined grain structure and second phase distribution. Unlike PM and RS proceesses, spray deposition is most suited to the production of high lithium containing alloys because it produces a clean microstructure, free of oxide contamination.
