THIS year the Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer low level strike and reconnaissance aircraft goes into service with the Royal Air Force. Already well established with the Royal Navy and built to fly at high subsonic speed at low level, its manufacture posed unusual problems. The central load-bearing framework is literally carved out of blocks of steel. This demanded special machinery and none was immediately available on the market. Hawker Siddeley Aviation, Brough, met the problem by designing its own.
