WHEN Continental supplies of mechanical and optical precision instruments for measuring and inspection were cut off at the outbreak of war, British manufacturers of instruments of this type undertook intensive research and development to fill the gap. This has resulted in the development of a large number of high quality instruments which are now available for the engineering trades.
