The development of structures with glass reinforced plastic materials has produced remarkable results in the field of aircraft construction at VFW-Fokker. Development of a component by VFW-Fokker for the new MRCA combat aircraft has furnished convincing proof that plastics not only offer the advantage of weight savings, high stiffness, resistance to corrosion, long service life and little maintenance but can also be superior to light metals, steel and titanium.
