Abstract High energy ions trapped at given L are limited to energies lower than the critical energy above which the motion is nonadiabatical. The limit is different for oxygen 0+ ions and for solar wind or solar energetic ions (charge state Z⋍6), respectively. Thus the energy limit strongly depends on the source. Assuming that a source of ions begins to supply trapped population from last closed drift shell we estimate the effect of stochastic instability for the formation of high energy oxygen trapped population. Different oxygen spectra are deduced in the core of the radiation belt for two mentioned sources.
