Abstract Photopolarimetry has been extensively used already on planets, the Moon, asteroids, satellites and comets which ground-based telescopes, to clarify problems such as soil texture of planetary surfaces and characterization of aerosols, crystals, dust or molecules in planetary atmospheres. The combination of the newly available technology of video-polarimetry with an Earth orbiting planetary telescope will offer new possibilities which are assessed on the basis of the already acquired results.
