Abstract Recording the activity of solar is an important task especially in space weather because it is one of the predominant features of the 11-year activity, which covers an increasing number of phenomena, its effects on the communications, satellites, radio signals, radio broadcasts, GPS systems and other technologies. During this period, solar activity is analyzed and documented in many places in the world. In the current study sunspot data was monitored and recorded in Baghdad, Iraq, for cycles 22, 23, and 24. The study aims to know the relative number of sunspots for the period started from 1986 using the refracting telescope (diameter = 10 cm, focal length = 120 cm and lens lens = 1.2 cm). The present study confirms that the results of obtained records locally are comparable to those of international studies.
