Abstract The present work experimentally investigates suppression of acoustic fields generated by supersonic jets of the rocket-launch vehicles at the initial period of launch by water injection. Water jets are injected to the combined jet along its perimeter at an angle of 0° and 60°. The solid rocket motor with the rocket-launch vehicles simulator case is used at tests. Effectiveness of reduction of acoustic loads on the rocket-launch vehicles surface by way of creation of water barrier was proved. It was determined that injection angle of 60° has greater effectiveness to reduce pressure pulsation levels.

Highlights Effectiveness of acoustic loads reduction by way of creation of water barrier was proved. Effectiveness of reduction of total levels of acoustic loads is 4–8dB. Injection angle of 60° has greater effectiveness to reduce pressure pulsation levels. Maximum reduction of spectrum levels of noise in frequency bands reaches values 10–14dB.
