Abstract This article describes a retrospective epidemiologic study of burn injuries in New York State. Information is provided on patterns of occurrence for various populations, places, and times. The environmental hazards most frequently associated with burn hospitalizations are identified. A systematic methodology (Haddon's Ten Countermeasure Strategies) is used to identify potential prevention activities. The objective of this report is to stimulate state and local agencies to develop a greater variety of burn injury prevention activities.
