Abstract Short review of ground-based observations of the Sun and of solar gravity modes detection is presented with the emphasize on 160m oscillation as predominant, long-time phase-coherent oscillation. The limitations imposed by the influence of Earth's atmosphere and geoseismic waves on observations of solar oscillations are pointed out together with a necessity of the observations of solar oscillations with the aid of space-probes.
