AbstractIn present work we study the fractal dimension of the constant-temperature lines on satellite IR images of clouds. We show that using this quantity one can distinguish between the regions with regular motions, where fractal dimension is about unity, and regions with completely turbulized flows, where fractal dimension is about 1.34. We consider large-scale cloud structures in the tropical zone of the atmosphere. We obtain that in the structures developing into tropical cyclone the number of zones with regular motions is greater than in the structures from which no tropical cyclone develops.
