Abstract Fengyun-4 is a second-generation Chinese geostationary quantitative remote sensing meteorological satellite. To operate continuously and steadily as well as achieve the high accuracy attitude determination requirement throughout the whole remote sensing operation period, the attitude control system is capable of autonomously locating and isolating its gyroscope faults. This paper introduces its practical strategy of gyroscope bias fault diagnosis, which is based on the correlated measurement equations among those redundancy gyroscopes. The correlated measurement equation, null space vector calculation, gyroscope bias fault detection algorithms as well as its practical bias fault diagnosis strategy are presented in detail. Numerical simulation suggests that the bias fault diagnosis in Fengyun-4 spacecraft could accurately detect and locate the bias fault among five redundancy gyroscopes.
