Abstract The paper describes the main results obtained with the immiscible aluminium-indium alloys elaborated during the Salyut 7 Franco-Soviet space flight. It provides a brief summary of the principle of the experiment, a discussion of the main metallographic and thermal results and, finally, it concentrates on determining the parameters contributing to the formation of the observed structures.
