Abstract Data relay satellites can be used to transmit remotely sensed data gathered by other satellites to processing facilities on Earth. The author examines the advantage and disadvantages of DRS systems, particularly from the point of view of developing countries and the developed countries of the southern hemisphere, such as Australia.
