AbstractCable-towed vehicles have the potential to reduce the costs of harvesting timber on steep or wet terrain. In many situations, these vehicles would perform best when both the wheels and cable winch are powered. This paper describes a control algorithm which minimizes wheel slip by optimizing the partitioning of power between the winch and tractive drives. Results of tests with an experimental vehicle showed that the algorithm was capable of providing nearly zero average wheel slip.
