AbstractThis paper deals with the analysis of physical features of ingots fabrication with the aid of an undirectional crystallisation method in microgravity. Conditions were investigated under which the main contribution to the processes of heat and mass transfer in the melt would be made by the convection induced by the Marangoni effect.Analysis was made of a current structure being formed under these conditions. To estimate the thickness of typical boundary layers and the current rate values the analytical correlations have been obtained. The effect of heat exchange features in the melt on the crystallization front rate value has been treated. To demonstrate experimentally the undirectional crystallization of germanium in space the distribution of alloying admixtures has undergone calculations and the distribution density estimates have been made.
