Abstract This paper presents an integrated conceptual framework for the description of the components and interactions of transportation systems. The abstraction presented makes use of the notions of procedures (mappings) and steady-state equilibria. Key elements of the conceptual framework include demand, performance and supply actions procedures. Combinations of the procedures are used to present the distinct but interrelated concepts of demand-performance, demand-performance-supply and demand- supply equilibria.
