Abstract Studies of the performance of the LIMA-D/PHOBOS experiment have been made. It is possible accurately to measure the mass of the elements on the target surface, but it will be difficult to estimate quantitatively relative abundances of them. Some problem areas are identified and a comparison is made with measurements of simple targets by other techniques.
