Abstract The variation of flow parameters of the solar wind protons and α-particles and the relationships between them are analyzed with the selective measurements on Prognoz 7. Values averaged over the period of observations complement the solar cycle variations determined by the data of other experiments. The solar wind proton temperature T p increases on the average with bulk velocity as a power law V 2.5 and ion density n decreases in such a way that the momentum flux density nV 2 is almost constant in low speed streams and increases in high speed streams of the solar wind. The correlation between the α-particle and proton temperature ratio and the absolute value of their velocity difference (V α −V p), the dependence of α-particle relative density on the solar wind conditions and the role of Coulomb collisions in equalization of α-particle and proton temperatures and velocities are discussed.
