AbstractThe past, present and future role of satellite sensors for the global measurement of minor constituents in the stratosphere is reviewed. Some of the results from SAMS and LIMS on Nimbus 7 and ATMOS on Spacelab 3 are discussed, and some of the prospects for new instruments and programmes are described.
