AbstractAn overview is given of the historical development of observations and characteristics of PMSE (Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes), which are detected by radars operating in the frequency range 2.75 MHz to 1.29 GHz. The related investigations give an insight into the dynamics and the aeronomy of the summer mesopause, which are shortly summarized.
