Abstract The MEDOC 1 campaign of Doppler satellite tracking (1977–1980) was a good opportunity to study ocean tides from perturbation theory: data were available over a 4 year period on 2 Transit satellites. The influence of ocean tides being neglected in operational orbit restitution, it has been possible to detect by spectral analysis effect of M2, S2, O1 and P1 waves and to restitute the principal term of the lunar waves. The resulting model was applied to the MEDOC 2 Campaign (1984–1986).
