Abstract This is a report on the application of proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) to the bulk chemical analysis of stratospheric micrometeorites. To derive elemental abundances, both, theoretically and experimentally sensitivity factors are determined. One of the two stratospheric particles which were available for PIXE analysis has an elemental composition very similar to cosmic while the other particle is depleted in volatile elements. The study demonstrates that PIXE is a promising tool as a complement to electron beam techniques.
