AbstractThe theoretical and experimental validity of the “flame generated turbulence” concept is discussed. Some arguments in favour of a more general concept, the “flame/turbulence interaction”, are proposed. It is concluded that the knowledge of this complex interaction problem requires elaborate investigations of the turbulence spectral behaviour in flames. Taking into consideration the actual state of experimental difficulties concerning turbulence measurements in flames, temperature spectrum in a turbulent premixed cool flame is investigated. This temperature spectrum is compared with temperature and velocity spectra in non-reacting hot turbulent flows. Different spectral behaviours of reactive flow turbulence and non-reactive flow turbulence are observed.
