AbstractONERA has studied an electrostatic levitator to be used for material processing in microgravity. The suspension of the sample, electrically charged, is achieved by use of passive means in a plane and by control along the direction perpendicular to the plane. The operation of this system is analyzed and the results of a test performed under normal gravity are presented.
