Abstract A summary is presented of the present status of the NASA space infrared astronomy program. Projects described include the Infrared Astronomy Satellite (IRAS), Small Infrared Telescope on Spacelab 2 (IRT), Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE), Shuttle Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF), Space Telescope (ST), and the Large Deployable Reflector (LDR). The important technical developments achieved in these programs are also discussed, as well as critical needs for future missions.
