Abstract The Hubble Space Telescope includes as one of the instruments the Wide Field/Planetary Camera (WF/PC). The instrument has two operating camera modes, each based on four charge coupled device (CCD) detectors. The use of CCD detectors for astrometry has been demonstrated on the ground. It is planned to use the WF/PC for small angle astrometry to search for and observe faint satellites, search for low mass companions, observe minor planets, and observe radio sources or quasars with respect to reference stars. The use of CCD's in the WF/PC for astrometry will require careful and thorough calibration to correct for distortions of the reimaging system and the individual chips and to determine the stability and relative position of the chips.
