Abstract This paper discusses the NASA technology program for Advanced Orbital Transfer Vehicle Propulsion. The program requirements and goals for a high performance, multiple restart, variable thrust, orbital transfer propulsion system which could be man-rated, space-based, and compatible with aeroassist maneuvering are presented. Three expander cycle engine concepts and critical technologies are discussed. Progress toward establishing technical feasibility of the concepts is reviewed for trubomachinery, combustion devices, health monitoring, space-based maintenance, and integrated component testing.
