Abstract A planetogonic scenario is developed on the basis of Cameron's pioneering “protoplanetary approach” to planetogony. The resulting gravitative structuring processes are analysed analytically. It is found, that numerous properties of the satellite systems of the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus can be explained on the basis of this scenario.
