Abstract Part 1 of this paper describes an intensive analysis of the recreational boating fatality history. The purpose of this analysis is to quantify the significance of hypothermia and other cold-related mechanisms as risks to recreational boaters. It is shown that approx. 16% of boating fatalities involve cold-related causes. Part II of this paper addresses a demographic analysis of the identified cold-related fatalities.
