AbstractRadars of the network have been providing data on the winds and waves of the 60/80–110- km region with increasing height and latitudinal coverage over the last 5–10 years: they include Medium Frequency (MF, spaced antenna), Meteor and L.F. systems. Climatologies of mean winds, tidal - (24-, 12-h) and gravity waves (10 min < τ < 6h) are discussed and compared with reference atmospheres and numerical models; physical processes and inconsistencies which require particular attention by observational networks and modellers are addressed. Coupling between winds and waves, and between middle atmosphere and lower thermosphere during shorter campaigns are considered using data mainly from the Saskatoon MF Radar.
