Abstract Data from the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) onboard Nimbus-7 were applied to (a) retrieval of the water equivalent of snow cover, (b) discrimination of forest types and land-cover categories, (c) determination of the near-surface wind speed in the Baltic Sea, and (d) determination of sea-ice concentration in the Baltic Sea. The data set covers parts of years 1978 through 1982.
