Abstract In the last few years, there have been developments in the field of spatial interaction modelling concerned with consistency, aggregation, the behavioral basis, integration with other sub-models, dynamics and calibration procedures. These are reviewed in turn and illustrated with two-examples—new forms of transport model and residential location model. It is shown that a much greater variety of spatial interaction models are now available as a result of these developments.
